History of the II Secondary School of Tadeusz Kościuszko
in Sandomierz
The History of the II Secondary School of General Education named after Tadeusz Kościuszko
in Sandomierz dates back to 1927, when two schools were opened in the building at Mickiewicza Street 9, built at the initiative of Mayor S. Więckowski: the Public Primary School
named after I. Mościcki (run by W. Górkiewicz) and the Public Primary School No. 2 named after Queen Jadwiga (run by
S. Szelest).
During the occupation, the site was first taken over by German troops, then in 1944 by the Soviet army, which led to its significant devastation. On 26 September 1944, a Public Primary School was launched under the leadership of F. Kolasa under very difficult conditions.
In 1947, the renovated building began to host Primary School No. 2 and Primary School No. 1 - an eleven-year-long school,
with a secondary class for boys, later renamed
to the State School of General Education Level Primary
and Secondary. In the popular "Kolasówka", transformed into a girls' school in the 1948/1949 school year, one coeducational class still functioned (alongside two girls' eighth-grade classes). In 1951, 21 girls received their high school certificates. In 1952, 297 students were enrolled in 8 classes of the secondary school.
On 1 July 1966, by the decision of the School District Office
in Kielce, the institution was divided into Primary School No. 1
and II Secondary School of General Education under a common leadership
(in the following years:
K. Karolewski, J. Lisak, E. Czaja). In that same year, thanks to the initiative of history teacher I. Żwinklewicz, the school was named after Tadeusz Kościuszko.
During M. Kunka's tenure (1978-1991), the building was expanded with a new wing housing 6 classrooms, a cafeteria, and a gymnasium.
In 1991, at the request of the newly elected director A. Pfeiffer
(1991-2006), the Education Authority decided to establish Primary School No. 2 and II Secondary School of General Education named after T. Kościuszko as separate organizational units. In 1998, the official school website and email address were launched.
Since 1999, the school has been managed by the District Office
in Sandomierz, and the pedagogical supervision is carried out by the Education Authority in Kielce. In September 2002, seven first-year classes started education in the reformed three-year cycle at the secondary school.
From 2006 to 2021, the director was R. Ryński, who
was replaced in September 2021 by B. Majewska.
The ceremonial reunion of the school's alumni and students on the occasion of its 70th anniversary took place in September 2017.
The ceremonial reunion of the school's alumni and students on the occasion of its 75th anniversary took place in September 2022.
